The appeals service is independent to Northern. Once you lodge an appeal with the appeals service the 21 day window in which we have requested payment is suspended pending the outcome of your appeal.
The appeals service notify us of your appeal and if this was successful we will then write to you again if any sum needs to be recovered.
The appeals service normally take 15 days to confirm the outcome of your appeal, We always recommend you register your appeal online www.penaltyservices.co.uk/make-an-appeal/ so that you can track its progress.
In some circumstances depending when you have appealed the penalty fare and the date when we are notified of your appeal by the appeals service you may receive an additional letter advising that you have failed to make payment as requested within the 21 day window and therefore an additional administration charge has been applied to the sum owed.
If this happens don’t worry as long as you appealed the fine within the 21 day window and the appeals service confirm that your appeal was received then the administration charge will be removed from any sum owed.
If you plan to write to the appeals we recommend any correspondence is sent recorded delivery so that you have record that the appeal was received.
