If you feel the penalty fare was issued unfairly you should appeal within 21 days of receiving the penalty fare notice for more information click this link.
You have 21 days from the notice been issued to appeal or pay the penalty fare notice. If you fail to make payment or appeal we will write to you again advising you of the outstanding sum owed to us. If we have to do this then an additional administration charge will be added to the sum owed.
If you fail to make payment after we have written to you again we will look to recover the sum owed to us via the county court and if we have to do this additional costs will be added to the sum owed to us and recovered through this process
If you travel on the railway with the intent of avoiding paying the fare then you may be prosecuted under criminal law. The current maximum penalty upon conviction is a £1,000 fine and/or three months imprisonment.
